This painting is 90% from my imagination. Because of this I needed to make several models, to work out the shadows and the way the wallpaper would distort and the water would reflect, to make it as real as possible. The image is a set of stairs on the left coming down into a T-section of hallways in a basement. The carpet floor is flooded. The most commonly asked question is: “What is pushing its way out of the wallpaper?” Well, in my head it was alive and moving slowly, but of course it can be whatever the viewer imagines.
